Fish heads, fish heads, rolly polly fish heads

So what is it with labs that make them like to roll in very, very smelly things? My pup, well, he is 16 months old now so maybe technically he is no longer a pup, has this great longing to roll in dead, smelly fish. Labs have so much energy they do need to be off leash where they can burn off some of that energy. So we head off to a dead end road that sort of dead ends into a snowmobile/atv trail. Along one side are tall weeds and an area that I have named "Wood Tick City".

Now very few people come down here, maybe the wood ticks scare them away. But there are people who come down here to dump the dead fish or parts of the dead fish that they don't want. And they don't just dump them, they have placed these dead fish in plastic bags. So the fish heat up and start to decompose and get very, very smelly. The ideal thing for a young lab that wants to roll. Twice this past week, before I could stop him, he ran off and rolled in his "bounty". Needless to say, twice this week, before heading off to work, I had to give him a bath. But don't be fooled. He is not the cleanest dog around. After his bath he goes out in the backyard and rolls in the grass. But at least then he smells like grass and not dead fish.

Fish heads

Sorry to hear your smelly tail, oops, I mean tale.

Our neighbors pile their garbage outside so our dogs sometimes come home smelling like garbage - usually something yummy like fish. They also have horses, and there's nothing like a good roll in horse manure to really spruce up a flowing blond golden retriever mix!
