I recently heard one good way to stay cool is to keep a cool wash cloth or ice on your head. Just like heat escapes through our heads in winter, so does cold in the summer.
That doesn't sound so appealing to me.
Here's an easy way to beat the heat, or at least put up a good fight, that seems to work for me: Right before bed I take a nice, cool shower. I put on my jammies and sprawl on my bed - on top of the covers - with a fan blowing right on me.
I usually sleep soundly through the night.
