Carrie's going to get arrested...

I like the singer Carrie Underwood. However, her latest cheater-bashing song is a bit much. In her lyrics, she describes trashing her boyfriend's vehicle after she finds that he's cheating. It made me think: would the damage her heroine's done be considered a felony?

Let's think about it, shall we?

She "dug her keys into the side of his pretty, little souped-up 4-wheel drive" ---- that sounds like an expensive paint job. Let's guess $1,000.

Potty training trials

It's challenging to get my youngest (puppy) potty trained.

She'd rather go inside in the winter than out in the snow. I talked to a vet and apparently it's a common problem in winter for pet owners -- particularly for pet owners of small dogs.

I've been taking her out frequently and cheering when she goes outside.

She has booties and a coat, so I don't know what the drama is about. Sometimes she "puts on the breaks" as soon as the cold air hits her.

Her older sister plows through the snow with abandon and always goes outside.

Hurray for 'The Golden Compass'

With glee I recently watched "The Golden Compass" movie at Bear Pause Theater in Hackensack. I think I will die if they ever close because I love movies and I especially love how clean and new the Bear Pause is. In college I once attended a movie in a southern Twin Cities' suburb where someone had evidently peed on the floor of the theater. Hopefully that was an isolated incident, otherwise I feel very sorry for theatergoers in the south metro.

They doesn't care.

Does bad grammar in songs annoy anyone else besides me?

I love Rascal Flats. It's an awesome band. However, in their new song there is the phrase: "Have you ever tried to love someone who just don't feel the same?"

Yes, that's right. They used "don't" instead of "doesn't."

A simple substitution of the words that make up each contraction would reveal the error.

"Have you ever tried to love someone who just (do not) feel the same?"

Steppin' out for Halloween

It's not even noon and I've already seen some great Halloween costumes.

I'm sending "props" to the ladies at Lakes State Bank in Pequot. They're all dressed as scarecrows today. Not only are they always pleasant to work with, they have holiday fashion sense too.

Another "shout out" to the gal at Lakes Latte in Pequot. She's dressed as Rainbow Bright -- complete with rainbow eyelashes.

Manure everywhere!

It smells like manure...everywhere. The whole town of Pine River is blanketed by the smell of fresh manure. My sources tell me that neighboring farmers are fertilizing their fields with liquid manure. Do they sell that at the Fleet Farm? Well, I believe it...because it smells!

Noah: are you out there?

We've had an awful lot of rain lately, so my question is: Has anyone started building the ark? We need two of each kind to fill it. I'd volunteer two pugs but they're both female and i don't think that would do much for the propagation of the species. And, they both like to chew on blocks of wood, so that might cause some structural damage on the inside of the boat. Hmmm. I'll have to think about it.

New baby

My husband and I have a new baby. Well, she's not exactly a human baby, but she's little and lovable, so close enough.

"Marie" is our new addition to the family. She's a 7-pound pug. She likes to charge at me with enthusiasm. Her paws flail about and it looks like she's trying to do "the windmill" or take to flight.

She and her older sister, Olivia, are getting along pretty well. Husband and I need to referee pretty frequently. Biting and pawing at each other's face is apparently really fun for pugs.

Cancer stinks

I saw a teenage girl the other day with a red T-shirt bearing the message: "Cancer stinks."

As a person coming from a family with a lot of cancer, I totally agree.

I think it's a funny shirt and I wish I had one myself.

Petraeus on Star Wars?

Not to be irreverent, but every time I hear news of the U.S. General Petraeus, I can't help but think of Star Wars. "Petraeus" sounds to me like a name that would fit well with the likes of "Padme Amidala" and "Sen. Palpatine." Maybe it's the "P" sound. How about "Padawon Learner," the term for a jedi-in-training (If I remember correctly.) Anyway, I think it's a cool name; I just can't stop thinking about Star Wars every time I hear it.
